What is the Student Financial Agreement Responsibility Agreement?
The Student Financial Responsibility Agreement is a statement of the financial obligations and responsibilities you agree to assume when you enroll at Yale University. The agreement is completed electronically and replaces the paper Student Bond form. This agreement must be completed by the student. Proxies cannot complete on behalf of the student.
I have already completed the Student Bond. Do I need to complete this as well? How often must I complete this agreement?
Yes, the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement must be completed every academic year.
How do I complete the agreement?
Log into YaleHub and under Student Account, click Student Financial Responsibility Agreement to review and accept the terms.
What if I don’t want to accept the agreement?
The Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SB) hold will remain on your account until completion. This hold prevents transcript requests.
Why is there a SB hold on my account?
The Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SB) hold is placed on all active students account when the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement is assigned. Once you complete the agreement, the hold will be removed within 24 hours. This hold prevents transcript requests.
How can I view a previous semester’s agreement?
Once you complete the agreement, an email will be sent to your yale.edu email address with the verbiage of the agreement. This allows you to print a copy for your records.
When will the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement be assigned?
The agreement will be assigned to all active Yale College students prior to the beginning of registration for the fall term, every academic year. An email notification will be sent to your yale.edu email address indicating that the agreement is available for completion.
How long after I complete the agreement is the SB hold removed?
Once you click the “I agree” button on the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement, the hold will be removed within 24 hours. An email notification will be sent to your yale.edu email address indicating you have successfully completed the agreement.

PAYMENT OBLIGATION
I understand that when I register for any class at Yale University, I accept full responsibility to pay all tuition, fees and other associated costs assessed as a result of my registration, including charges related to housing, meals, and/or receipt of services. I further understand and agree that my registration and acceptance of these terms constitutes a promissory note agreement in which Yale University is providing me educational services and deferring some or all of my payment obligation for those services. I promise to pay for all assessed tuition, fees and other associated costs by the applicable due date.
I understand and agree that if I drop or withdraw from some or all of the classes for which I register, I will be responsible for paying all or a portion of tuition and fees in accordance with the published tuition refund schedule for my program. I further understand and agree that my failure to attend class or receive a bill does not absolve me of my financial responsibility as described in this Agreement.
I understand that administrative or technical billing errors, while rare, do not absolve me of my financial responsibility to pay the correct amount of tuition, fees and other associated costs assessed as a result of my enrollment at Yale University.
METHOD OF BILLING
I understand that Yale University uses electronic billing (e-bill) as its official billing method and will not send a paper bill to me or to anyone else who may make payments on my behalf. E-bill information is available at Student Account | Student Accounts (yale.edu). I am responsible for viewing and paying my student account bill by the scheduled due date. I further understand that failure to review my student account bill does not absolve me of my financial responsibility as described in this Agreement. DELINQUENT ACCOUNT
Financial Hold: I understand and agree that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing to the University by the due date, the University will place a financial hold on my student account, which may prevent me from registering for future classes or receiving my diploma. This hold will remain on my account until the balance is paid in full. I further understand that the University reserves the right to withdraw me if I fail to fulfill my financial responsibility. Once withdrawn, I understand that I will not be allowed to return to campus for future terms until my financial obligation has been fully satisfied.
Late Payment: I understand and agree that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing to the University by the due date, the University will assess late payment fees in accordance with the policy set forth on the Office of Student Accounts website at the relevant time. This information can be found at Tuition Due Dates | Student Accounts (yale.edu). Late fees may be applied to past due amounts from prior terms even if the balance for the current term is paid in full.
RETURNED PAYMENTS
If my payment is returned by the bank for any reason, I will be assessed the amount of the original payment plus a returned payment fee. The returned payment fee is published on the Office of Student Accounts website.
COLLECTION AGENCY FEES
I understand and accept that if I fail to pay my student account bill or any monies due and owing to Yale University by the due date,and fail to make acceptable payment arrangementsto bring my account current, the University may refer my delinquent account to a third-party collection agency. I further understand that if the University refers my student account balance to a third party for collection, a collection fee will be assessed and will be due in full at the time of the referral to the third party.
FINANCIAL AID
I understand that aid described as “estimated” on my financial aid award does not represent actual or guaranteed payment but is an estimate of the aid I may receive if I meet all requirements of the relevant aid program. If my eligibility for financial aid changes for any reason, I understand that I will be responsible for any charges on my account that were previously covered by financial aid.
WITHDRAWAL
I understand that if I decide to completely withdraw or drop below full-time status from the University, I must follow the applicable withdrawal policies and notify the appropriate financial aid office. I understand that I may have to return up to 100% of the financial aid funds which I have been awarded, become ineligible for future financial aid, be required to complete exit counseling and/or be required to commence loan repayment immediately.
COMMUNICATION
I understand and agree that Yale University uses my University email as an official method of communication with me, and I am responsible for reading the emails I receive from the University on a timely basis.
I authorize Yale University and its agents and contractors to contact me at my current and any future addresses, cellular phone number(s), email address(es) or wireless device(s) regarding my delinquent student account(s)/loan(s) or any other debt I owe to the University. I authorize Yale University and its agents and contractors to use automated telephone dialing equipment, artificial or pre-recorded voice or text messages, and personal calls and emails, in their efforts to contact me. Furthermore, I understand that I may withdraw my consent to call my cellular telephone using automated telephone dialing equipment by submitting my request in writing to Yale University Office of Student Accounts or by writing to the applicable contractor or agent contacting me on behalf of the University.
CONTACT INFORMATION
I understand and agree that I am responsible for keeping Yale University records up to date with my current physical addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. Upon leaving Yale University for any reason, it is my responsibility to provide the University with updated contact information for purposes of continued communication regarding any amounts that remain due and owing to Yale University.
IRS FORM 1098-T
I agree to provide my Social Security number (SSN) or taxpayer identification number (TIN) to Yale University upon request as required by Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations for Form 1098-T reporting purposes. If I fail to provide my SSN or TIN to the University, I agree to pay any and all IRS fines assessed as a result of my missing SSN/TIN.
ENTIRE AGREEMENT
I understand and agree that this Agreement shall apply to tuition, fees and other costs assessed by the University before or after my submission of this Agreement in connection with each semester and/or term during which I am enrolled at the University. This Agreement supersedes all prior understandings, representations, negotiations and correspondence between me and Yale University, constitutes the entire agreement between me and Yale University with respect to the matters described. This Agreement may be modified by Yale University if the modification is signed by me. Any modification will be specifically limited to those policies and/or terms addressed in the modification.
